The
Actors’ Fund of America subscribes to the
Code of
Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice of the
Association of Fundraising
Professionals.
Standard #12 in the code states that members of the Association,
including The Actors’ Fund, “shall not disclose privileged or
confidential information to unauthorized parties”, nor will The Fund
disclose any lists for sale or any other purposes.
CODE OF ETHICS
The entertainment
profession depends upon The Actors’ Fund of America to help its members
in need and distress. Therefore, The Fund must conduct itself with high
ethical standards of performance, keeping in mind what James Q. Wilson,
James Collins Professor of Management at UCLA, cities as the four innate
sentiments which dispose people to a moral sense: “sympathy, fairness,
self-control, and duty.”
This code of ethics is a guide for all those who conduct the business of
The Fund.
The Fund will deal empathetically with the people whom we serve, showing
fairness in decisions of award and assistance. Trustees, employees and
volunteers will exhibit self-control and patience while faithfully
performing their duties to The Fund and its recipients of aid.
Employees of The Fund will be evaluated on a fair and consistently even
basis. They will be informed of management’s expectations and how they
are progressing toward The Fund’s goals.
All Trustees and volunteers will be treated with fairness and respect,
helping them to develop and set standards for the performance of their
various roles.
The Fund will handle all the funds entrusted to it wisely, efficiently,
and objectively.
When representing The Fund, Trustees, employees and volunteers will take
no action which would benefit themselves, their families, or any other
organization with which they might be connected. They will engage in no
activity which would represent a conflict of interest with the purposes
of The Actors’ Fund. Every effort should be made to avoid even the
appearance of a conflict of interest.
The Fund will seek vendors who will offer their services and products on
a competitive and professional level, asking no gratuity or favor for
doing The Fund’s work.
Trustees, employees and volunteers will sign and adhere to The Fund’s
confidentiality statement.
Only by observing all codes of ethics of the professional organizations
to which we belong, and by steadfast and ethical performance, can we do
honest good work which we have the heart and training to do.
