| Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative The Actors' Fund's
Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative (PNWHI) addresses health issues which impact
women in the entertainment industry and highlights The Fund's health-related services for
women. The concept for the new program was the inspiration of actor/director and Fund
Trustee, Phyllis Newman, a breast cancer survivor, who provides leadership, energy and
guidance. This program is supported in part by our annual NOTHING LIKE A DAME event.
The Initiative is an extension of several of The Fund's continuing programs:
This national Initiative provides a comprehensive roster of services including:
- Vouchers for free mammograms
- Referrals to our network of community and union supports
- Advocacy for community services, medical care and public and private benefits
- Crisis Intervention and counseling
- Substance abuse and Mental Health Services
- Short term groups and seminars
- Health fair participation
- The Women's HIV Outreach and Education Program which offers support and education to
women who are concerned about HIV
The Initiative is specially "designed to communicate vital, life-saving
information to members of the entertainment community."
